Fundamentals of Electronics. Volume 4. Receiver Circuit Application
Bureau Naval Personnel, 1965. — 200 p., ill.
Most of the people employed in the field of electronics are aware of the growing popularity and importance of the transistor. Yet few people, not directly involved with them, really understand what a transistor is or its basic operation. The transistor is only one phase of the vast field of electronics that falls under the heading of Solid State or Semiconductor electronics. The purpose of this chapter is to introduce solid state physics and semiconductor theory as a basis for the study of transistors. To understand semiconductor theory a knowledge of atomic structure is needed. While Chapter 1 explained atomic structure, a review is in order at this time and will be given with emphasis on specific areas.
