“This study is the result of a thorough work with the province of the southern dialect of Albanian lands, Cham, as one of the first studies in sociolinguistic perspective. The researches refers mainly to the years 1978, 1998, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012.
Besides two processes that appear to be the ‘conservation’ and ‘renewal’ this dialect presents ‘an intercommunication process’, which plays the role of a communicator between the archaic and modern Cham dialect.
Role of extralingual factors in the life of this (any) dialect is crucial, most important of which is the way the Chams are integrated within the host communities, or other such psychological factors, the deportation etc.
After Cham dialect study, we concluded that it is oriented toward the standard language dialect, but as a conservative dialect this orientation is slower compared to the other dialects.
As evidence of the overcoming stages of Albanian language, through Cham dialect are revealed many issues of historic character.
In this dialect we can not skip its internal developments.
It seems to be important the treatment of sociolinguistic variables in context of all elements of discursive activity.
The Cham dialect affects also the dialect of residents of the host communities.
All conclusions emerge after a thorough work with this dialect in three systems: in the lexical, phonetic, and morphological ones” (p. 240).
