Brian Paltridge is Professor of TESOL at the University of Sydney. With Sue Starfield he is co-author of Thesis and Dissertation Writing in a Second Language (Routledge, 2007) and with his TESOL colleagues at the University of Sydney Teaching Academic Writing (University of Michigan Press, 2009). With Aek Phakiti he edited the Companion to Research Methods in Applied Linguistics (Continuum, 2010), with Ken Hyland the Companion to Discourse Analysis (Continuum, 2011) and with Diane Belcher and Ann Johns New Directions in English for Specific Purposes Research (University of Michigan Press, 2011). His most recent publications are the second edition of his book Discourse Analysis (Bloomsbury 2012) and the Handbook of English for Specific Purposes, edited with Sue Starfield (Wiley-Blackwell 2103).
He is an Editor Emeritus for the journal English for Specific Purposes and a member of the editorial board for the EA Journal, the Taiwan International ESP Journal , the Chinese Journal of ESP and a member of the international advisory board for the International Journal for Researcher Development. He is an honorary advisor to the Advisory Board of the English for specific purposes committee of the China Foreign Languages Education Committee.
Sue Starfield is Associate Professor in the School of Education and Director of The Learning Centre at the University of New South Wales. She is co-editor of the international peer-reviewed journal English for Specific Purposes, and co-author of Thesis and Dissertation Writing in a Second Language: A Handbook for Supervisors (with B. Paltridge 2007).
