Kelkar M. Natural Gas Production Engineering
PennWell, 2008. — 581 p. — ISBN: 978-1-59370-017-1.
In this important new book, Mohan Kelkar, a respected author and professor, presents the quintessential guide for gas engineers, emphasizing the practical aspects of natural gas production. Readers will learn to incorporate cutting-edge research in estimating reserves, evaluating the performance of fractured wells, processing gas, and material balance analysis; learn to evaluate future performance of gas reservoirs; learn to improve the performance of gas wells; and more.
This book is primarily written for practicing production engineers. Author have made every effort to understand the typical needs of a production engineer working in the gas field, and have tried to address them. The book is written as a self-help book. After each concept is illustrated, a numerical example is shown to emphasize the concept, and work problems are provided for a better understanding. Realizing that field units are used in the United States, whereas, rest of the world uses SI units, all the numbers as well as equations used in the book are shown using both units. At the beginning of each chapter, Learning Objectives are presented so that the reader will know what is expected to be learned after reading that chapter. Main points of each section are emphasized in a summary at the end of each section.
Author have largely benefited from teaching a Gas Production Engineering course for Petroskills, Incorporated, over the last 13 years. While teaching the class, author met hundreds of gas production engineers. Most of the problems and the examples included in the book are provided by these engineers. The chapters have also gone through many revisions based on their comments and suggestions. Due to development of marginal and unconventional gas fields in North America, lot of newer technology is playing an important role in optimizing gas production. Author have made every effort to keep the book up-to-date.
Mohan Kelkar hope that the practicing engineers will find this book helpful for solving their daily problems. If a particular problem is not addressed in this book, author would ask the reader to send him the problem so that he can include it in the next edition.
