If we regard the development of modern technology as a second industrial revolution induced by communication and control, as Norbert Wiener did, it is easy to see that the concept of feedback, which is the central idea in automatic control, has applications far beyond the fields of technology. Accordingly, many persons engaged in such fields as economics or sociology are also interested in the theory of automatic control.
Automatic control engineering is, however, somewhat difficult even for engineering students, despite the interest in the subject. The reason is that automatic control engineering involves several abstract concepts, a great deal of new terminology, and rather advanced mathematics.
