AXIe-1 Revision 3.0, October 8, 2015
The AXIe Base Architecture defines an extensible platform for general purpose, modular instrumentation. The architecture incorporates the best features of earlier modular open instrumentation platforms, including VXIbus, PXI, and LXI. Like VXIbus and PXI, the architecture is based on a popular modular computing platform with added features important to developers and users of test and measurement systems. The base platform is AdvancedTCA, an open architecture for modular computing components targeted for communications infrastructure applications. The
AdvancedTCA architecture includes provisions for power distribution, power and system management, Ethernet communication between modules, and PCI Express communication between modules, along with other capabilities.
The AXIe Base Architecture includes some modifications to the AdvancedTCA architecture. These modifications provide timing, triggering, and module-to-module data movement features that are important to the implementation of high-performance test and measurement systems.
