A long process of reflection on Foucault’s work. The notions of the ‘death of the subject’ or the ‘death of Man’ have deeply affected much of contemporary thought. We can attribute much of their influence to the work of Michel Foucault. At the same time, debates over these notions and criticism of Foucault’s work have often become mired in disputes over absolutism versus relativism, or foundationalism versus fragmentation. The proper alternative to foundationalism is not fragmentation but dialogue; such a dialogical picture can be found in the work of the French philosopher Michel Foucault.
