Adams A. Artificial-Light Photography
Morgan & Morgan, 1956. — 136 p. — (Basic Photo 5)
The 5 Basic Photo books of this series by Ansel Adams are:
Book 1 Camera & Lens: Studio, Darkroom, Equipment
Book 2 The Negative: Exposure and Development
Book 3 The Print: Contact Printing and Enlarging
Book 4 Natural-Light Photography
Book 5 Artificial-Light Photography
The function of this series, Basic Photo, is to present a philosophy of technique and application. Every example and statement is set forth with the hope that the photographer and the serious student will use it as the basis for personal experiment and for the development of a personal approach.
This book is dedicated to everyone who is interested in the development of straighforward photography and who believes in the simple statement of the lens. Light to the accomplished photographer, is as much an actuality as substance like rock and flesh: it is an element to be elevated and interpreted. The impression of light and the impression of substance which are archeived throught he careful useof light are equally essential to the realistic photographic image. Light may be used as the dominant element in expressive photography, where "departure from reality" or emotional or aesthetic emphasis are desired. Where much of the best contemporary photography has been accomplished with natural light, we must recognize the fact that artificial light can be a powerful creative tool.
