The amplifiers discussed in this volume are designed to have extreme values in one of several of the pertinent characteristics: bandwidth, sensitivity, linearity, constancy of gain over long periods of time, etc. In most cases the design of such amplifiers, in which the ultimate performance is obtained from available types of components, cannot be carried out by simple rules of thumb.
