This book was originally developed for and by the anthropologists of the world, as was described in the original Preface. Its popularity - far exceeding that of any of the other ninety books in the World Antropology series, prooved that anthropology had indeed suffered to long a serious vacuum. The appearence of a revised edition of this book may yet fill this vacuum.
