Douhal A. (Ed.) Cyclodextrin Materials Photochemistry, Photophysics and Photobiology
Amsterdam: Elsevier. – 2006. – 332 p. (Chemical, Physical and Biological Aspects of Confined Systems. Vol. 1)
This book reflects the height of the latest knowledge of the effects of cyclodextrins (CD) confinement on the photochemical, photophysical and photobiological events in caged molecules. The research work using light to interrogate the behavior of CD inclusion nanostructures developed around the world during the first five years of the 21st century is described here in 14 chapters. These were reviewed by specialists working in the field and revised when necessary, adding a collective responsibility for the quality of the book. The idea to make this book, originates while editing a special issue on this topic published last year in the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry, Vol. 173(3) (2005). During the preparation and edition of this issue I realized that there is an urgent need for the scientific community working in the field, to have a book describing our recent understanding of the effect of light on the behavior of inclusion complexes of CD. The book will then be of interest to a multidisciplinary audience working in confined nanostructures. Truely, several articles and few reviews and book chapters have been published in the field, but a book dedicated to the science studying photo-induced processes in CD materials alongside the concepts of confined and assembled nanostructures is presented for the first time here.
